QBCC First Birthday

Congratulations to the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.

Yesterday, I was invited to join the team at  QBCC for the first birthday celebrations. Minister Tim Mander, Phil Kesby (chair of the board) and Steve Griffin (Commissioner) all spoke about the exciting work that has been completed, and how much hard work has been put in to date.

Getting recognition at such a distinguished level always boosts moral for the troops on the ground. It shows the long hours, tedious testing and re-testing, have paid off, not only for the QBCC staff, the new (1year old) QBC Board, but for all Queenslanders, whether they are consumers building a home, the builder, contractor or subbies.

Recon CIO Breakfast

I was invited recently to listen to David Gee at the Recon CIO Forum. Not only was he an inspiring change advocate but he is a very strong character. David has a story and he tells it well!

David states - Above all, transformation is about strapping on the seat belt, and telling the board how hard it is, as they will never understand how hard it is and will ways want heads to roll about how slow it is. As a leader at LKT Consulting I see this every day and it doesn’t matter how big or small the transformation is.

He talks are about reinventing yourself while building momentum, keeping your integrity while building resilience. I listened to him detail about winning your team over while punching above your weight and challenging the status quo.
I took much away from this event but mostly it was the obvious, the things we trip up on, such as “be the trusted advisor”, “back to People, Process and Technology” and it’s about the “Things you say and DON’T say”.

Great event thank to Recon Solutions
